Aims & Scope

Polyfora: A Journal of Speculative CoFutures is an online and open-access platform for speculating about possible futures. With both academic and artistic content, the journal encourages creative and interdisciplinary collaboration and non-traditional forms of knowledge production. Our goal is to foster a multi-faceted dialogue about visionary concepts in future-oriented speculative practice and policy among researchers, practitioners, artists, and communities in a way that amplifies voices often marginalized in depictions of potential futures. Polyfora recognizes that to speculate about possible futures is to intervene in and to shape futures, and thus maintains a commitment to multiplying possibilities, including platforming and amplifying those futures that are already emerging across the pluriverse.

Polyfora has an interdisciplinary focus, and welcomes hybrid, experimental methodologies and speculative or non-academic knowledge production as imperative to breaking disciplinary silos, cultivating dialogue, and engaging communities in imagining futures. As such, the journal invites submissions of both academic content (peer-reviewed articles, reviews, think pieces) and popular content (fiction, art, multi-media works). With the goal of diversifying the range of perspectives, Polyfora welcomes submissions and special issue proposals in many languages.*

Polyfora is published once a year (with the possibility of an extra special issue) and welcomes proposals for guest-edited theme issues and smaller clusters (e.g., a group of 3-4 papers, or a combination of 1-2 papers, a short story or an artwork addressing a common theme). If you are interested in submitting your work/proposal or have a question, please contact the editors-in-chief.

Polyfora will be online first, open-access journal (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) with articles published on the web platform: text as HTML (PDF for download) and media hosted on page (check media players).
